August 16th, 2019 became for me a pivotal day in my life experience. It appeared innocent until evening when I decided to see if I could find some people I knew well from my days in the Peace Country whenI lived in Fort St. John, BC. These formative years to which I am speaking were from 1975 to 1985, a period of which I was hired by Baltic Drilling company head Jack Banks as the sole pilot to fly the company Cessna 206. My research led me to see if I could find any of them and see where they are today. To my dismay, I indeed did find them, but not the way I anticipated. Many of them are listed in the obituary columns in the regional newspaper! A two hour search of names and there were more than a dozen of them listed. Some died in the 1980s, some more recent, in the last decade or so. The thing that stirred me most is when I realized just how much these people influenced me and the degree to which our lives had crossed. Yet they barely got recorded in the obituaries little if any in their life history and story.. Just a simple line “they were loved and left behind family…etc”. Truly a shame. Many were young, fresh and, in their own ways, made tremendous impacts on their communities that pioneered and grew the north to what it is today.

This ‘wake-up’ call became a catalyst for me to record my life experiences as best as possible to avoid, not so much as an ego thing yet perhaps not be ‘misunderstood’, a form of record to set the record straight as best as possible from my own viewpoint and perception, through my eyes! A form of biography I guess. My story goes back to my birth in Edmonton, Alberta in 1954. I am going to present my journey from the beginnings through those special years in the peace country and onward right up to today. I have met many people through all these years that had a great impact on me, some wonderful, some not quite so wonderful, some powerful businessman, some eccentric individuals that truly coloured the character and landscape of the area of which they lived. But they all left behind a powerful impression in my memory, a permanent stamp in my character that will be with me to the grave! So I am going to tell a little of this story, my story, from the humble beginnings, through all those years, to now. This way I can mention and include the many people who I knew that I learned many things from that I still carry to this very day. My decision is to write this as I am writing a book, with chapters that guide me from ‘then until ‘now’

With this in mind, let’s get started on a journey of a lifetime, my journey! It may take months, maybe a year, but I will stay the course to get as much written as is possible. With this n mind, it is time for lift-off, my launch day to get the story recorded! Follow along…
