The Art of Being An Original- Lose Your Sempiternal Memory
![]()
Ralph Waldo Emerson states that the one thing mankind seeks with insatiable desire is to forget ourselves, to be surprised out of our own propriety. To lose our sempiternal memory, our eternal/dateless memory, and do something without knowing how or why; in short draw a new circle. As nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm and spontaneity , we can only draw into a new circle by letting go through the energy of abandonment. This letting go of all preconceived notions and ideas can only bring you to a place of a void state where there lives no ego, your true self. It is here we find our true source of inspiration, where all things are anew, fresh and full of wonderment for examination and consideration. Emerson states that the great moments in history are the facilities of performance through the strength of ideas, as the works of genius. “A man,” said Oliver Cromwell, “never rises so high as when he knows not where he is going.”
Here is the key. The thief of this magnificent oracular genius is what is Emerson calls the semblance and counterfeit, the strong, seductive attraction to the lower senses. He names drugs and alcohol as two primary drawings into the passions of the lower senses. The desire for power, control and manipulate others to your benefit/agenda is another counterfeit self, the ego self. This lower use of potent energy robs the individual of the enthusiasm and required single minded focus to achieve personal greatness. Of course moderation of alcohol use is an exception. Anything that robs you of the state and ability to draw a new circle from a new place inside you into your personal greatness is a counterfeit and not from your true self. Master your real self or succumb to the enslavement of your counterfeit self. Do you have a desire to rise so high above into the great vastness of your own unknown, your true self?
A consideration for thought, isn’t it?
